LECTURE
INTRO TO PHOTOSHOP 3

In this lecture, Mr Fauzi introduced us to adjustment layer and filters

Adjustment Layer
  • A super useful, non-destructive image editing tool that adds colour and tonal adjustments to your image without permanently changing its pixels.

  • With the adjustment layers, we can edit and discard our adjustments or restore your original image at any time.

  • This will make our workflow in Photoshop more flexible and efficient.

When we add an adjustment layer to our image, a new layer will appear over our image and a Properties panel specific to the type of adjustment we have selected will pop up. The Properties panel will allow us to modify your adjustment layer, which in turn will modify our image.

1. BRIGHTNESS / CONTRAST
  • Brightness / Contrast makes adjustments to the tonal range of our image.

  • The brightness slider is for adjusting the highlights in our image and the Contrast slider is for adjusting the shadows in our image.
2. LEVEL
  • Levels modify the tonal values in an image by adjusting the levels of the shadows, mid-tones, and highlights.

  • It’s one of the most used tools in the adjustment layer panel, and using just a touch of levels will go a long way in correcting your images.

3. CURVES
  • Curves let us adjust as many points as we want throughout the entire tonal range of your image and is the most powerful and precise tool for editing the tones in an image.
4. EXPOSURE
  • Exposure lets us adjust exposure levels with three sliders: Exposure, Offset and Gamma.

  • Exposure will adjust only the highlights of the image, Offset adjusts the mid tones and Gamma will adjust the dark tones only.

5. SELECTIVE COLOUR
  • The Selective Color adjustment layer selectively modifies the amount of a primary colour without modifying the other primary colours in our image.

Filters
  • There are filters to change colour, add blur or create completely new image effects.

  • Photoshop offers a virtually unlimited variety of filters for this purpose.

I choose Digital Collage #2 from Week 3 exercise.

Digital Collage #2

I want to create a sense of technology for the future world for this collage, so I made a cyberpunk style with neon colour lines.

I adjusted the colour to cooler tone using the camera raw filter tool in Photoshop.

Then, I add lines and add outer glow effect to those lines to create light strips for the edges of some items.

In cyberpunk worlds, humans often integrate technology into their bodies, so I add high-tech glasses for all humans.
