During the first week, Mr Fauzi provided us with an overview of the module, highlighting the importance of Photoshop and sharing some useful tips for becoming a successful designer. He advised us to organize files properly and rename Photoshop layers to make our work efficient. 

Moreover, Mr Fauzi also said that there are no shortcuts to being a successful designer, we must do more practice, diligently find various resources to learn such as Instagram, TikTok or youtube and don't be afraid to try an error to be successful designers.

We are also been given an instruction to prepare collage elements from old magazine for week 2 exercise.

1. Create an E-Portfolio blog

We are assigned to set up our E-portfolio on the Blogger website, with the reference video shared by Mr Fauzi.

We were also assigned to create a Digital Photograph and Imaging(DPI) board on Pinterest to save design ideas for this module.

We are required to search for 3 favourite graphic design composition work from Pinterest and provide an explanation of why we like the designs.

Black Swan Movie Poster (By La Boca)

Description:

When I first saw this poster, my attention was grabbed by this poster, it captured the viewer’s attention immediately with a clear and attractive visual design. Especially the weight of black swan brings a big visual impact but the whole image still can balance well. Moreover, I like the repetition of the ballerina creates emphasis and combine naturally with swan head to form a complete swan.

This Poster expressed :

The poster’s main focus is on the head of black swan, with its high-contrast of black and red beak as highlight emphasize its presence. Viewer’s attention then moves to the secondary focus of the poster, a ballet girl. Backlighting is utilized to bring out the delicate outline of the ballerina, while the direction of her hands leads the viewer towards the headings of the poster.

The poster also effectively conveys a clear message and content to viewers. As a poster for a psychological horror drama film, the colour scheme of black, red, and warm white perfectly captures the dark and painful themes of depression and trauma. The poster's also use of contrast between the large black swan and the headings balances the overall tension.

Translating War into Peace, classic UN poster (By Armando Milani)

Description:

Upon first viewing this poster, I was immediately struck by the designer's impressive ability to convey the powerful message of transitioning from war to peace through a simple yet effective design. Not only does the poster evoke a strong emotional response, but it also serves as a call to action for viewers to actively avoid war.

This Poster expressed : 

The poster's diagonal composition plays a crucial role in its overall effectiveness. The dove, which serves as the primary focus of the poster, is strategically placed to guide the viewer's gaze from the bottom left corner to the top right corner. Additionally, the design elements within the letters "W" and "R," "PE" and "CE," encourage viewer engagement and curiosity, prompting them to guess the missing letter between each set. 

The use of colours is also very particular. The blue background symbolizes peace, and the dove effectively conveys the message that war is not the answer and peace is the ultimate goal.

Big Fish & Begonia Movie Poster (By 虢子楷sheep)

Description:

Upon first seeing this poster, I was impressed by the colour of this poster which gave me a whimsical and fantasy-like feeling. There are high contrasts between the big red fish and the little main character, warm colour and cold colour showing this extraordinary moment. I was particularly amazed to learn that this beautiful piece of art was hand-drawn using watercolours, as most posters nowadays are digitalized. Despite having seen it many times, the poster continues to have a huge visual impact and remains engaging and memorable, leaving a lasting impression in my mind.

This Poster expressed : 

This poster's colour theme features high brightness and purity, showcasing contrasting orange-red and blue-green hues that blend together seamlessly. The application of the golden section method expertly captures the viewer's attention. , with each element contributing to the overall harmony of the design. The choice of wild brush Chinese font for the heading is perfect for complementing the majestic picture. Overall, the poster's combination of expert design choices and hand-drawn artwork make it a true masterpiece that captivates and inspires me so much.
