INSTRUCTIONS

Task Description

Continuing your research and character creation work, you will take your Assignment 1 sculpted model to complete texturing, rigging, posing and rendering. You must reflect on your creative process by completing a production journal.

Task Instructions 

Complete the development of a 3D character for use in an animated context using predefined production approaches and pipelines. appropriate.

Model requirements

  • Must be fully textured and fully rigged
  • All texture maps must be imported into Maya and assigned to appropriate materials using the correct colour channels.
  • The textures must be detailed and have high resolution with no blurry or stretched parts.

Rig requirements

  • Must utilise Human-IK skeleton.
  • The skeleton must be defined.
  • Must have working controls for eyes and jaw (optionally, may add more controls).
  • Must use at least 15 unique blend shapes for facial animation and lip-sync.
  • All blend shapes must be properly assigned to the mesh and work correctly.
  • The mesh must be skinned and skin weights painted correctly to allow the mesh to deform naturally when animated.
  • The jaw must be skinned.

Final render requirements

  • The character must be posed for a final beauty shot in a way that reflects its personality.
  • The beauty shot must be well-lit and have good composition.
  • The render must be high-resolution (at least 1080p)

Production journal requirements

  • Must continue from assignment 1
  • Must illustrate each stage of the character development process: from texturing to the final render
  • May include screenshots or videos with short commentary. At least 1 image per each production stage.
  • Must include references where appropriate in APA style. For example, if you reference a book, movie, or YouTube tutorial.
